Straddling the Danube, about 200 kilometres west of Vienna, Linz is Austria’s third city Adolf Hitler’s favourite town, he built the massive iron and steel works that define much of the city’s character.

Of course, Linz is best known as the birthplace of the Linzer Torte. Fritz Rath is the head baker of the k.u.k. Hofbäckerei. According to the Lonely Planet, Fritz says that the secret ingredient of the Linzer Torte is the red current jam.
